Steve Jones, Executive Director
Originally hailing from Ankeny, IA, Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Iowa State University. He then went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design & Technology from The University of Memphis. Steve worked as a freelance designer in Memphis for two years before accepting a position on the faculty of Rhodes College in Memphis. Steve also began working summers in the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts, in Murfreesboro, TN. Eventually, Steve accepted a full-time faculty position as Scenic Designer and Technical Director at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. Steve stayed at MTSU for 12 years where he was tenured and achieved the rank of Associate Professor. He continued working with the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts, where he eventually rose to the position of Director of Theatre.
At this point in time, Steve met Sherry Shirley. Sherry was finishing up medical school and was returning to Glasgow to attend the Family Practice Residency Program, as she wished to set up her medical practice in Glasgow upon final graduation. So Steve moved to Glasgow and commuted to Murfreesboro while searching for a job closer to his new home. He was hired as the President & CEO of the Capitol Arts Alliance in Bowling Green where he managed the Capitol for 13 months before the City of Glasgow announced the position of Executive Director of the Plaza Theatre. Steve applied for that position, and that is how he got to the Plaza.

Countless Elvis and Beatles films, Help, Hard Days Night, and the animated Yellow Submarine.
In 1984 Anthony married Nancy Mason and they have one daughter Lauren, who has played the lead in several local theatrical productions at the Plaza. In 1988 he took a spot as lead guitarist for country music star Ronnie Mcdowell, touring, recording and writing on several of Mcdowell’s album projects. In 1991 he accepted the position as bassist/vocalist, co-producer with Grammy award winning The Kentucky Headhunters, where he wrote and recorded eight album projects, appeared on countless television shows, and toured all of the U.S. and Canada. He remained there until the summer of 2007, when he accepted the position of Technical Director at The Plaza. He has always had his own recording studio, has been involved in the technical aspect of music for his whole career, and continues to perform, write and record when time allows.
Volunteers serve as the backbone to operations here at the Plaza Theatre, particularly in the presentation of events.
There are only two full-time staff members at the Plaza Theatre. This is not enough personnel to run a 1,000+ restored historic theatre, especially when it is full of Patrons. So the Plaza Theatre relies heavily on its Volunteer base, which currently includes over 60 Volunteers.
Volunteers serves as ushers, ticket scanners, ticket sellers, greeters, and more at performances. Volunteers also help out the Plaza Theatre during business hours by doing light office work, such as filing, answering the phone, selling tickets and data entry.
If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer here at the Plaza, please go to our Volunteer section of the web site.
